Oxygen Tanks
Oxygen Tanks
We’ve designed this website to be a resource for patients. We want patients to know their options and to be able to discuss those options with their doctor. This website does not offer medical advice. It is not meant to replace the medical advice from a doctor or other medical personnel. Our goal is to provide accurate information, even if that means giving you links to other websites.

Tank Sizes
The chart below shows the various sizes of gas tanks. Oxygen companies don’t often carry all of these sizes.
The new naming convention uses M for medical. The number refers to the amount of cubic feet of oxygen the tank holds. In the old convention letters were used. The “J” in the JD tank stands for jumbo.

Height and Weight
The height of the tanks does not include the stem on top. The weight shown does not include the necessary regulator or conserving regulator, which connects the cannulae to the tank and controls the flow of oxygen nor does it include any type of device to carry the tank, like a shoulder bag or cart.
Duration
The amount of time a tank will last depends on three things: the amount of pressure the oxygen is under, the regulator and whether the regulator is set for continuous or pulse, and the liter flow.
